Email for Great People

I’ve created this list for great people I know and value very much.
It’s a serie of emails packed with inspiring stuff. The goal is to ignite a spark of creativity in your mind. Sometimes bilingual, sometimes in French only.
You can unsubscribe at any time, you just need to reply to this email and say “No thanks”.

Love

How Buildings Learn: What Happens After They're Built

How Buildings Learn: What Happens After They're Built by Stewart Brand (1994)

The book explains how architecture awards judge the building on how it looks before the people move in, forgetting the importance of that building's ability to adapt and grow with the needs of the people inside.

« This book is the best book about software architecture . It presents such a convincing case for the importance of adaptability and a core architecture to enable that - that you start to view the codebase you are working on, heck, even your life through the perspective of:

“What decisions am I making now
that might impact the ability to change?”

In 1997, BBC made a great serie of 6 episodes about this book

BBC Serie
This six-part, three-hour, BBC TV series aired in 1997. Presented and co-written by Stewart Brand

..is a very important idea of his book “Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto”.
If you don’t want to read the book you can read this interview where he explain quickly his point of view (the Guardian has a longer review).

Stewart Brand also keep track of his annotations online about this book.
